History
The story of People’son Beale begins in the early 1900s as Peeples Stag Cafeteria, a downtown Memphis gathering place centered around food, conversation, and
community. The original spelling, Peeples, reflected a family name andmarked the establishment’s earliest chapter. As the city evolved,so did Peeples. Over time, the cafeteria transitioned into a pool hall,
shifting its focus from daytime dining to competition, camaraderie, and
nightlife. During this evolution, the name changed to People’s, a spelling that better reflected what it had become: a place for everyone.Through changing eras and locations, People’s remained a constant in Memphis nightlife. The pool
tables took center stage, the nights grew longer, and generations of patrons
passed through its doors, each adding to the story. In the late 20thcentury, People’s found its home on historic Beale Street, placing it at the
heart of Memphis music, culture, and nightlife. Today, People’s on Beale continues that legacy as a Pool Hall & Good Time Emporium, honoring its roots while creating new memories every night.People’s on Beale is a historic Memphis pool hall and Beale Street bar offering billiards, drinks,
